“MPC appeals to Rufus Rodriguez to stop issuing public statements that preempt the decision of his own Ad Hoc Committee”
The Mindanao Peoples Caucus and its allied civil society organizations and grassroots communities appeal to Chairman Rufus Rodriguez to immediately stop issuing statements over the media that preempt the democratic processes in the legislative work on the Bangsamoro Basic law. The Ad Hoc Committee on the Bangsamoro is yet to resume its hearing on the proposed legislation this coming April 20-30 and its very own chair is already undermining the process by preempting the votes of each and every member in the 75-member ad hoc committee.
The recent bloody firefight involving members the Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF) and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) guerillas joined in by elements of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) who also have a camp in the locality early morning on Sunday shaken not only Maguindanao but the whole country as well.
About 400 members of the elite SAF-PNP were on a clandestine operation to serve warrant of arrest on Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli Bin Hir also known as “Marwan” and Abdulbasit Usman who are linked to Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) but did not coordinate with the GPH-MILF ceasefire committees, the ADJAG as a protocol provided for in the ceasefire agreement signed by the GPH and MILF.
DECEMBER 3, 2014 – "Isa lang ang nasa isip ko: Pag Moro, kapatid!" (There's only one thing on my mind: Moros are brothers!), declares Datu Victorino Saway, a Talaandig leader and member of Mindanao Peoples Caucus. His statement was greeted by applause and praise from the participants – Moro, indigenous peoples (IP), and Christian settlers.
The gathering was part of the Re-affirmation of Kinship between the Moro and IP in Mindanao held in Barangay Salat, President Roxas, North Cotabato. The *2-year running Re-affirmation once again calls key players in the movement to end conflict in Mindanao to come together as one. Over a hundred participants attended and the hall remained packed until the end of the half-day program.
Residents of Nuro, Upi, Maguindanao composed of Bangsamoro, Christian settlers and Indigenous Peoples (IPs) have participated in a Training Workshop on Safety and Security organized by TIYAKAP KAWAGIB of the Bangsamoro Center for Just Peace (TK-BCJP) in partnership with the Alliance of Peace Advocates Inc. (APAI) at the Upi Municipal Hall last March 28. An alliance of peace organizations held their first general assembly at Kadtuntaya Foundation Incorporated (KFI) Training Center last March 18, 2015.
The group named Grassroots Peace Monitoring Network (GPMN) aims to consolidate grassroots monitors from different organizations in support to the peace process and ceasefire mechanisms, to gather and provide accurate and up-to-date information on safety and security of civilians and ensure protection of civilians from harm and human rights abuses.
The launching was attended by more than thirty (30) organizations mostly from Central Mindanao.
